Milligan Women’s golf wins second event of season

After breaking the 18-hole scoring record Monday, the Milligan College women’s golf team put three players on the all-tournament team and won the East Tennessee Collegiate Tuesday at Johnson City Country Club.

Freshman Michaela Lindahl (72-77) placed third individually to lead Milligan. Nellie Berglund (71-81), who led the Buffs after day one with a low round 71, finished tied for fourth with Emma Brown (75-77) to wrap up the Buffs’ second win of the season.

Milligan (608) followed its record-breaking opening round of 296 with a team low round 312 on day two to win by 16 strokes. Lindsey Wilson earned the runner-up spot with a score of 624 (304-320).

Milligan’s B team, led by Danielle Mirovich (76-77), took fourth overall in the field of nine teams. Mirovich missed the all-tournament team by one stroke. Five other Buffs finished in the top 30, including Alayna Perryman (10th/78-77), Ashley Cauthen (17th/81-79), Jenny Simonsen (23rd/77-85), Madison Blanton (28th/76-88) and Mattie Janutolo (29th/85-80).

Up next, Milligan heads to the Appalachian Athletic Conference Fall Championship Monday-Tuesday, Oct. 14-15, at Chateau Elan Golf Club in Braselton, Georgia. After that, the Buffs have only one event remaining on the fall calendar.
