Monday Recap: Lady Warriors wrap up successful trip to Charleston

The Lady Warriors finished up a successful trip to Charleston as they captured the Cathedral Academy bracket of the Carolina Invitational.

The HV defense set the tone once again as the Lady Warriors held North Bulitt to just two points in the first quarter. Shalyn Whitson sparked the HV offense with seven points in the first eight minutes as Happy Valley held a 13-2 lead after a quarter of play and a 25-10 lead at the half.

From there, the Lady Warriors took care of business.

Whitson, who was named the MVP of the bracket, had 15 points to lead the way. Kenzie Ramey, Olivia Absher and Jaiden Clark had six points each.

In the third-place game of the Cathedral Academy bracket, Hampton defeated Orangeburg Prep (S.C.) 37-21.

Cloudland 63, Cocke County 60
The ‘Landers held on in the closing stages to wrap up the Sullivan North tournament with a win on Monday night.

Cloudland maintained a 35-17 lead at the half, and had a double-digit lead for most of the second half. Cocke County, however, nearly erased a 18-point fourth-quarter deficit in a fast and furious comeback in the closing minutes.

The ‘Landers were able to secure the win in the closing seconds after Cocke County missed a 3-pointer with three seconds remaining.

Hunter Shell had 22 points to lead the way, while Bentley Gilbert had 12 points for CHS. Connor Birchfield and Elijah Blair had nine points each.
