Monday Round-up: Elizabethton Soccer, Happy Valley baseball get conference wins

Happy Valley 5, Sullivan East 2
The Warriors picked up their first conference win of the season with a 5-2 victory in Bluff City on Monday. Happy Valley’s Justin Morefield picked up the win with a stellar performance on the mound as he allowed just five hits over six innings of work. Morefield recorded nine strikeouts in the game.

Ty Hurley led the HV offense with three RBIs off a 2-for-4 performance.

Dobyns-Bennett 8, Elizabethton 3
Despite jumping out to an early 1-0 lead, Elizabethton was unable to keep pace in an 8-3 nonconference loss. The Cyclones trailed 4-3 entering the sixth, but was unable to plate a run before the Indians added four in the home side of the sixth.

Bo Pless went 2-for-3 at the plate, while Garrett Hartley and Gabe Treadway both went 1-for-2. Freshman Corey Russell also added a hit in the game.

The Cyclones blanked the Rebels to pick up a 3-0 conference victory on Monday at Citizen’s Bank Stadium.
With an early goal from Hayden Townsend, Elizabethton took a 1-0 lead at the half. Dante Callahan and Daniel Sanchez each recorded a goal in the second half.

The Cyclone defense limited the Rebels to just three shots on goal in the match.
