Monday Round-up: Elizabethton Splits At Cocke County; Unaka Falls In Season Openers

Grainger 54, Unaka 48 (Girls)
The Lady Rangers came up short in the season opener on Monday night.

Brooklyn Campbell and Kalli Shepard had 11 points apiece to lead Unaka, while Michelle Shields added eight points. Keyonna Hague and Ari Sutherland added seven and six points, respectively.

Adison Hayes led Grainger with 20 points.

Grainger 57, Unaka 49 (boys)
The Rangers saw three players reach double digits, but were unable to pull ahead late in the season opener.

Aiden Walsh had 17 points to lead Unaka. John Hardin added 14 points, while Peyton Guess tossed in 11 points.

Grainger was paced by Carter Williams’ 24 points. Kade Williams added 12 points.

Cocke County 53, Elizabethton 43 (girls)
The Lady Cyclones came up short in a battle on Monday night.

After a back-and-forth first quarter, Cocke County finished the half on a 14-3 run to take a 32-19 halftime lead. Elizabethton responded with a 13-4 in the third, but was unable to continue the rally.

Rylee May had 12 points to lead the Orange and Black, while Addison Bunn had 11 points. Jamira Smalls and Reagan May added six points apiece.

Elizabethton 81, Cocke County 68 (boys)
The Cyclones slowly pulled away for a road win in the season opener on Monday night.

Nathan Bailey had 25 points to pace Elizabethton. Hudson Pate added 18 points. Evan Chambers and Chance Taylor had 14 and 10 points, respectively.

EHS led 42-29 at the half and was able to keep Cocke County at bay throughout the season.
