Monday Roundup: Lady Cyclones Take Win Over Unaka, HV Baseball Use Quick Start For District Win

Elizabethton 11, Unaka 1
The Lady Cyclones jumped out early and took a win over a county foe on Monday.

Piper Bennett was 3-for-3 with an RBI, while Gracie Shepard added three RBI on one hit. Sadie Williams was 2-for-2 with two RBI. Lacey Gobble added two hits and two RBI for Elizabethton.

Gobble struck out nine batters in the pitching circle.

Katlyn Dugger recorded an RBI for Unaka. Kimberly Profitt, Mollie Buckles, Devalyn Harter, and Kelsey Pasquale each had a hit.

Cloudland 6, Freeport (OH) 5 (9 Innings)
The Lady ‘Landers went to extras to pick up a win at the Grand Strand Classic.

After Cloudland tied the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the seventh, both teams scored the international tiebreaker run in the eighth. CHS held Freeport scoreless in the visiting side of the ninth and then drove a run across to take the win.

Willow Bennett went 4-for-4 with three RBI to lead Cloudland. Savannah McCoury had a hit and an RBI, while Regan Blair, Ayla Horney, and Peyton Preswood each had a hit.

Reagan Turbyfill had 13 strikeouts and allowed just one earned run on three hits.

Baseball
Daniel Boone 10, Elizabethton 8
The Cyclones were unable to rally in the seventh after Daniel Boone battled back.

EHS held a 6-0 lead going to the bottom of the fourth before the Trailblazers plated six runs in the home side of the frame. Boone pushed the advantage out with four runs in the sixth.

Elizabethton, however, didn’t go quietly as the Cyclones were able to drive two across with two outs and get the tying run to second. However, EHS was unable to push the run across.

Bo Armstrong was 2-for-4 with three RBI to pace EHS. JD Hooks had two hits with an RBI, while Rhett Slagle had two RBI and a homerun.

Justin Whitehead and Marshal Holtsclaw each had two hits. Elijah Ambrose recorded a hit and an RBI.

North Greene 3, Hampton 2
The Bulldogs fell on the wrong side of a walkoff on Monday night.

Hampton held a slim 2-1 lead entering the home side of the seventh, where North Greene scored two runs on a two-out double to take the win.

Brock Shelby was 2-for-3 with a run scored, while Jayden Kuhn had a hit and an RBI. Cash Royston, Brayden Otey, Colby Clark, and Kasey Gilbert each had a hit.

In 3.2 innings of work, Kuhn struck out five batters and allowed just three earned runs on three hits, while Clark struck out four batters and allowed no runs on no hits in three innings of work.

Happy Valley 17, South Greene 7
The Warriors took full control in the third and never looked back.

After taking a 2-0 lead in the first, HV plated 11 runs in the third. South Greene was able to get the offense going in the fourth, but HV was able to keep them at bay for the win.

Aiden Hartsook had three RBI, while Lane Parker was 3-for-3 with an RBI. Mason Belt went 3-for-4 with an RBI, and Fermin Carrillo-Estrada was 2-for-3 with two RBI. Greg Visser added two hits and an RBI, while Grady Goulds had a hit and an RBI.
