Happy Friday!!!

On top of being Friday, guess what day it is?!?! It’s Cloudland-Hampton baby!

Sorry, I couldn’t resist the cheesy joke, but what a slate of games we have tonight including the showdown in Hampton between the Highlanders and the Bulldogs. We are lucky to have some great rivalries about the county, but there is only one Cloudland-Hampton.

While the gridiron version may be widely known across the region and even state, the hardwood versions of the rivalry have quickly became even more hotly contested. The series is special because of the proximity of the schools, and the fact that many families have relatives on other side of the series makes this just doubles the fun.

As always seems to be the case, both meetings will have an impact on the conference race, especially after the Lady Bulldogs pulled off their upset of No. 2 South Greene on Tuesday night while the Bulldogs got knocked off by the Rebels for the second time in conference play. In the Watauga Valley race, a rivalry win will be a big momentum boast, and for both Cloudland and Hampton tonight is a great night to start.

The rest of the Friday slate has some eye-opening matchups across the board. Happy Valley will welcome Unicoi County to Warrior Hill, while Elizabethton will travel to Sullivan North in Three Rivers action, while Unaka will step outside conference play as they welcome Cosby to the Creek.

It is going to be a cold night tonight, and that means it will be a great night for basketball.

Until next time, have a great Friday!
