No. 1 Lady Cyclones roll past HV

For 14 minutes, the Happy Valley girls went toe-to-toe with rival Elizabethton. However, the Lady Cyclones proved to deliver the knockout punch.

Elizabethton went on a 7-0 run in the final minute of the first half and never looked back as they rolled to a 68-38 victory over Happy Valley on Tuesday night in Three Rivers Conference action.

Jenna Eaton and the Lady Warriors came out of the gate strong as Eaton drained two 3-pointers to power Happy Valley to an 8-2 lead in the opening minutes. Kayla Marosites answered with six of the next eight points to push the Lady Cyclones back in front, and the teams ended the first quarter knotted in a 16-16 tie.

After Elizabethton pulled out to a 24-18 lead to open the second quarter, Annie Woods and Kalee Johnson scored two points apiece to pull the Lady Warriors within one with just over two minutes to play in the first half. However, Kelci Marosites started a 7-0 Elizabethton run with a trey that gave EHS a 31-23 advantage at the half.

In the third quarter, Megan Pietrowski kicked the stanza off with a jumper, and Elizabethton quickly extended the lead to 16 points. Happy Valley battled back, but the Lady Cyclones rolled to a 51-30 advantage entering the final quarter. From there, it was status quo as Happy Valley was unable to make a late run.

Ka. Marosites led Elizabethton with 21 points, while Ke. Marosites tallied 18 points in the game. Sarah Robinson finished with 12 rebounds and 10 points.

For the Lady Warriors, Johnson tallied 14 points, including her 1,000th point during the first quarter. Eaton tallied 11 points in the game.
