Elizabethton won a tight battle on Tuesday night.

The Cyclones picked up a 2-1 victory over Unicoi County at Joe O’Brien Field in the home opener.

It was also the debut of the new turf that was installed in the offseason.

After three scoreless innings, Unicoi opened the scoring with a lone run in the third.

Elizabethton, however, answered as Rhett Slagle scored off a Justin Whitehead double to even things up at 1-1.

The Cyclones took the lead in the bottom of the fifth as Steven Meadows pushed Jeriah Giffin across the plate.

From there, Elizabethton was able to hold off Unicoi to secure the win.

Brayden Buckles, Logan Campbell, Whitehead, Slagle, Meadows, and Griffin each had a hit for EHS.

On the mound, Bryson Rowland picked up the win as he allowed just one unearned run on one hit in four innings of work with four strikeouts.
