Elizabethton had a split night in league play Tuesday.
The Lady Cyclones rolled to a 76-40 win over Sullivan East inside Treadway Gymnasium, while the Cyclones were unable to rally late in a 68-59 decision to the Patriots.
In the girls’ game, Elizabethton jumped out early.
Lina Lyon and Renna Lane had six points apiece in the opening quarter to push EHS to a 19-10 advantage after a quarter of play. The Lady Cyclones hit the gas in the second quarter.
Lane hit three 3-pointers while five EHS players scored in the quarter. That allowed the Lady Cyclones to outscore East 28-9 in the quarter to take a 47-19 halftime lead.
From there, Elizabethton was able to keep rolling in the second half.
Lane had 15 points to lead Elizabethton, while Marlee Mathena and Lyon had 14 points apiece. Reiley Whitson had 13 points.
Olivia Holly had eight points.
In the boys’ game, the Cyclones had to play from behind.
East jumped out to a 22-12 advantage in the first quarter, but Elizabethton was able to trim the deficit to 37-30 at the half.
The third quarter saw the teams trade shots as Elizabethton continued to battle. The Cyclones continued to stay within striking distance throughout the second half but were unable to get back in front in the final minutes.
Dalton Mitchell led Elizabethton with 20 points. Will Churchhill and Mason Ball had 12 points apiece.
