The Bulldogs protected home court, while the Lady Bulldogs came up short in a thriller on Friday night.
The Hampton boys used a pair of runs to outlast and take a 64-54 victory over North Greene, while the Lady Bulldogs were unable to edge ahead late in a 62-57 decision to the Lady Huskies.
In the boys’ game, the Bulldogs found themselves locked into a battle.
After NG jumped out to a 7-0 lead, Michael Harrison and Morgan Lyons hit shots to pull HHS back within two points.
Hampton also saw Conor Burleson and Dalton Holtsclaw add buckets and Isaiah McCoury hit a buzzer-beater to pull Hampton within 17-15 after a quarter of play.
Hampton opened the second quarter quickly as they went on a 16-5 run to push the lead out to 31-22, but the Huskies used a quick spurt to cut the Bulldog lead to 33-30 at the half.
The Bulldogs used another run in the third quarter to take control.
Lyons and Buckles hit quick back-to-back shots to spark a 10-0 Hampton run. NG used a run of their own, but the Bulldogs held on to a 50-39 lead with a quarter to play.
The Huskies closed the gap to four points midway through the final quarter, but Harrison and Buckles countered and the Bulldogs secured the win.
Buckles led the way with 13 points, while Harrison tossed in 10 points. Lyons ended the game with nine points, while
Hayden Campbell and Burleson had eight points apiece.
Cody Freshour had 22 points to lead North Greene.
In the girls’ game, Hampton found themselves in a tight battle from the opening tip.
The teams traded shots in the early going before Linsey Jenkins went on a 7-2 run to give Hampton an 11-7 advantage.
North Greene, however, ended the quarter with a quick 4-0 run as the teams ended the first quarter tied at 11-11.
Taylor Berry opened the Hampton scoring in the second as HHS pulled out to a 20-17 advantage midway through the quarter.
The teams swapped points to end the half as the Lady Bulldogs held a 25-22 lead at the break.
The third quarter saw North Greene take control with an 18-2 run that allowed the Lady Huskies to take a 44-35 lead going to the fourth quarter.
Hampton, however, kept battling.
Madi McClain, Piper Helle, and Jenkins hit shots to help the Lady Bulldogs pull back within three points in the closing stages of the fourth quarter. However, Hampton was unable to get back in front in the closing seconds.
Berry finished with 20 points to lead Hampton, while Jenkins had 15 points. Macy Henry had nine points, while McClain added six points. Helle also added five points.
Shelby Davenport had 24 points to pace North Greene.
