Happy Valley came up a yard short on Friday night.
The Warriors dropped a heartbreaking 21-20 decision to Bledsoe County in the Class 2A playoffs on Warrior Hill. With the loss, Happy Valley’s season comes to a close with an 11-1 record.
After Bledsoe County took a 21-14 lead with 6:44 to play, HV went to work and answered with 1:33 left with a Gabe McDougald touchdown. Happy Valley’s two-point attempt, however, was a yard short, and HV was unable to recover the onside kick.
Keelin Releford had 98 yards on 13 carries, while Lane Parker had 14 carries for 83 yards and two touchdowns. Parker added 30 passing yards.
Tyler Bailey added 41 yards rushing.
Happy Valley opened the scoring as Parker scored on a four-yard run on the game’s opening drive that took 7:29 off the clock.
Bledsoe County capped their opening drive with a Dallas Bridges touchdown run with 11:24 left in the second to even things up at 6-6.
Possessions were limited the rest of the way as the game remained tied at 6-6 at the break.
Parker scored his second touchdown of the night on an 11-yard run with a minute left in the third. McDougald added the two-point conversion to give HV a 14-6 advantage after three complete quarters.
Marcos Ramirez scored for Bledsoe to tie the game 30 seconds into the fourth, setting up the final sequence.
Bridges led BC with 58 yards rushing on nine carries, while Ramirez had 54 yards.
As a team, Happy Valley outgained Bledsoe County 270-190.
