Elizabethton saw mixed results on Friday night.
The Lady Cyclones hit the gas early and never looked back in a 73-47 win over Volunteer, while the Cyclones were unable to complete a rally in a 77-67 decision to the Falcons.
In the girls’ game, Elizabethton set the tone early.
The Lady Cyclones saw six players score in the opening eight minutes as the balanced attack gave EHS a 22-9 lead after a quarter of play. Lina Lyon scored seven points in the second quarter while Olivia Holly had five points as Elizabethton maintained a 48-24 lead at the half.
The Lady Cyclones continued to keep Volunteer at bay in the second half to secure the win.
Holly had 20 points to pace Elizabethton, while Lyon had 19 points. Renna Lane scored 17 points.
In the boys’ game, Elizabethton had to dig out of an early hole.
Volunteer held a 23-14 lead after a quarter of play and pushed the advantage to 47-31 at the break.
Elizabethton, however, battled back with key shots from Mason Ball and Nate Stephens as EHS tied the game at 61-61.
Volunteer, however, outscored the Cyclones 16-6 from that point to take the win.
Ball had 19 points to lead the way, while Stephens had 13 points. Mac Paulson, Dalton Mitchell, and Andrew Barnett had eight points apiece.
