Cloudland battled to the last out on Wednesday afternoon.
The Lady ‘Landers came up short in a 7-3 decision to North Greene in the Region 1-A Championship game at North Greene. The Lady ‘Landers will compete in the program’s second-ever substate game at Oliver Springs this weekend.
North Greene struck first in the bottom of the first with a solo homerun from Trayln Southerland, and the Lady Huskies added single runs in the second and third to take a 3-0 lead after three innings of play.
Cloudland was able to get a runner in scoring position in the fourth, but was unable to plate the run.
NG struck again with two runs in the home side of the fifth inning and two more in the sixth.
The Lady ‘Landers, however, continued to battle.
Reagan Turbyfill took advantage of an NG error to reach base, and Zoe Gardner reached on a single. Peyton Preswood delivered a double for Cloudland as rain started to fall that plated the two runs. Regan Blair hit a single to left field that allowed Sophia Moore – who was running for Preswood – to score as CHS cut the gap to 7-3. Cloudland, however, was unable to keep the rally going.
Preswood had two RBI and a hit, while Eowyn McCoury, Willow Bennett, Regan Blair, and Gardner each had a hit.
For North Greene, Southerland was 3-for-3 with three RBI, while Hannah Brooks recorded seven strikeouts in the pitching circle.
