Photo Gallery: Lady ‘Landers, Rangers Take District Wins

It was a split result on Stoney Creek Friday night.

Cloudland jumped out early and took a 59-24 win over Unaka in the girls’ game, while the Rangers used a run in the third quarter to take full control in a 62-27 win over the ‘Landers in the boys’ contest.

In the girls’ game, Cloudland took control early.

The Lady ‘Landers scored the first 16 points of the game before Unaka got on the board in the closing seconds of the first quarter. CHS held an 18-2 lead after the first.

It was more of the same as Cloudland continued to limit the Lady Rangers, and maintained a 29-6 lead at the half.

In the second half, Unaka continued to battle but was unable to cut into the Cloudland lead.

Ryan Turbyfill led Cloudland with 11 points, while Izabella Christman scored eight points. Sahara McKinney, Bethany Sluder, and Makenzie Street had six points apiece.

Haley Taylor finished with seven points to lead the Lady Rangers. Alisha Harrell added six points, and Lauren Lund had five points. Keyona Hague tallied four points.

In the boys’ game, Unaka was able to pull away methodically to take the win.

The Rangers saw Marcus Shomaker score the first eight points of the game to propel Unaka to a 14-4 lead after a quarter of play. Both teams traded shots early in the second, but Unaka was able to push the lead to 29-13

The Rangers took full control in the third quarter with a 20-2 run. From there, Unaka was able to keep the ‘Landers at bay to secure the win.

Mason Wilson led Unaka with 15 points, while Shomaker scored 14 points. John Hardin ended the game with 12 points.

Nick Caraway led Cloudland with 12 points, while Cooper Smith had eight points.
