Elizabethton split a pair of district games on Friday night.

The Lady Cyclones used a big first quarter to pull ahead and never looked back in a 77-55 win over Sullivan East. In the boys’ game, the Cyclones came up short in a 56-42 decision to the Patriots.

For the Lady Cyclones, it was smooth sailing from the opening tip.

Michelle Shields scored 12 points in the opening eight minutes as EHS stormed out to a 27-6 lead after a quarter of play. The Lady Cyclones continued to hold the momentum as they maintained a 45-21 halftime advantage.

The second half continued to be all Elizabethton.
Shields led the way with 32 points, while Marlee Mathena had 16 points. Jamira Smalls scored 11 points.

In the boys’ game, the Cyclones were unable to overcome an early deficit.

The Patriots jumped out early and took an 18-6 lead after the first quarter. Elizabethton kept battling and trimmed the lead to 28-20 at the half.

The Cyclones continued to fight but was unable to make a second-half run to close the gap any further.

Jackson Hobbs led Elizabethton with 18 points. Mac Paulson scored 12 points.

East was led by Tyler Cross’ 13 points.
