With a week left in the 2023 regular season, the playoff picture is becoming clearer.
The 2023 regular season wraps up with games on Thursday, Oct. 26, and Friday, Oct. 27, and the first round of the 2023 TSSAA playoffs is slated for Nov. 3.
Here is a look at playoff scenarios involving our county teams.
Class A
In Region 1-A, Cloudland and the Rangers have secured playoff spots.
The ‘Landers have secured the No. 1 seed from the region as they look to claim the league title outright with a win over Unaka on Thursday.
Jellico has also locked up the No. 2 seed.
If Unaka and Cosby win in Week 11, the Rangers will enter the playoffs as a No. 3 seed with North Greene coming in at No. 4. In all other scenarios, North Greene will be a No. 3 seed, and Unaka will be the No. 4 seed.
In Region 2-A, there are two ways that the seeding will play out for the playoffs.
If Rockwood and Greenback pick up wins this week, Rockwood would be the No. 1 seed, Coalfield would be the No. 2 seed, Greenback would be the No. 3 and Oliver Springs would be the No. 4.
In any other scenario, Coalfield will claim the No. 1 seed with Oliver Springs seeded as a No. 2, Rockwood as a No. 3, and Greenback as the No. 4.
Class 2A
In Region 1, the last week of the season will be a crucial week for seedings.
Hampton and Happy Valley have clinched playoff spots.
If Hampton, Cumberland Gap, and Happy Valley win this week, the order for playoffs would be Hampton at No. 1, Happy Valley at No. 2, and South Greene at No. 3. In this scenario, there would be a deep tiebreaker for the No. 4 spot.
If Hampton, Cumberland Gap, and West Greene win, the order would see Hampton at No. 1, Happy Valley at No. 2, South Greene at No. 3, and West Greene at No. 4.
If South Greene, Cumberland Gap, and Happy Valley win, the order would see South Greene taking the No. 1 seed with Hampton at No. 2, and Happy Valley at No. 3. There would be a deep-tie breaker for the No. 4 seed in this scenario as well.
If Hampton and Eagleton win, the order would see Hampton at No. 1, Happy Valley at No. 2, South Greene at No. 3, and Eagleton at No. 4.
With a South Greene and Eagleton win, South Greene would be the No. 1 seed with Hampton at the No. 2 spot, Happy Valley as a No. 3 seed, and Eagleton as a No. 4 seed.
In Region 2, the scenarios are pretty simple.
York Institute has secured the No. 1 seed, while the winner of the Bledsoe County and Oneida game will be the No. 2 seed and the loser will be slotted at No. 3. Polk County has locked in the No. 4 seed.
Class 4A
In Region 1, the playoff seedings will come down to two games.
The winner of the Elizabethton and Greeneville game will claim the region title as well as the No. 1 seed, while the other will fall to the No. 2 with a loss.
The winner of the Northview Academy and Sullivan East contest will claim the No. 3 seed with the loser being slotted at No. 4.
In Region 2, Anderson County has secured a No. 1 seed.
If Seymour and Knox Fulton win, Knox Fulton will claim the No. 2 seed with Gibbs entering the playoffs as a No. 3 seed and Knox Carter at No. 4.
In all other scenarios, Gibbs will claim the No. 2 seed with Knox Carter and Knox Fulton entering as the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds regardless.
