Unaka was unable to complete a rally on Friday night.
The Rangers battled back but came up short in a 34-24 decision to Twin Springs (Va.) at Goddard Field. It was the first game on the new turf playing surface for Unaka.
In the first half, Ashton Fuller caught a Jacob Carrier pass for a 62-yard touchdown pass, while TJ Pareenteau added a short touchdown as UHS trailed 24-12 at the half.
The third quarter saw Twin Springs score a touchdown and a 46-yard field goal to push the lead to 34-12.
Unaka, however, didn’t go quietly.
The Rangers got on the board early in the fourth as Carrier and Fuller connected for a 36-yard touchdown. The two-point conversion was unsuccessful.
After the Ranger defense came up with a big fourth-down stop, the Ranger offense went back to work.
A quick drive ended when Fuller caught a Carrier pass for a 10-yard touchdown with 2:01 left. Unaka was unable to add the two-point conversion, and the onside kick was unsuccessful.
