The Unaka boys’ basketball team came up short on a road trip Thursday night.

The Rangers dropped a 71-54 contest at North Greene in District 1-A action.

The girls’ contest was postponed to Feb. 3, due to COVID-19 issues.

Unaka jumped out early as Landon Ramsey, Joseph Slagle and Joe-Z Blamo hit early shots to take a 7-4 lead. The teams traded shots before NG hit a late shot to take a 15-13 lead after a quarter of play.

Slagle opened the scoring in the second quarter with a 3-pointer to put the Rangers back in front, but the Huskies responded with a 9-1 run. That helped North Greene take a 28-18 halftime lead.

Unaka continued to battle in the second half but was unable to cut into the NG lead.

Blamo led Unaka with 17 points, while Ramsey had 15 points. Slagle added 12 points for the Rangers.

Jason Britton had 21 points to lead North Greene.
