Unaka came up short on Friday night.

The Rangers were unable to keep pace as they dropped a 44-26 decision to Thomas Walker (Va.) on Homecoming night on Stoney Creek on Friday night.

It was a back-and-forth battle in the opening quarter.

Connor McKinney intercepted a Pioneers pass and then threw a 14-yard pass for the touchdown to give Unaka an early 6-0 lead.

After Thomas Walker tied things up midway through the quarter, Isaiah White broke free on the ensuing kickoff as he went 83 yards for the touchdown.

The Pioneers, however, answered once again with a 26-yard touchdown in the closing minute of the first quarter to tie things up at 12-12 after a quarter of play.

Thomas Walker opened the scoring in the second quarter with a long pass play, but Unaka answered as Freeman scored on a short run. The two-point conversion was unsuccessful.

The Pioneers added a late touchdown to take a 26-18 lead into the locker room at the half.

UHS kept battling in the second half.

After Thomas Walker scored a pair of touchdowns to open the quarter, McKinney found White for a 43-yard touchdown, and McKinney added the two-point conversion as Unaka closed to within 38-26 after three complete quarters of play.

The Rangers continued to battle but was unable to mount a rally in the final quarter.
