Unaka broke into the win column in a big way.
The Rangers erased any thoughts of a Cosby comeback in the second half and rolled to a 38-14 victory on Stoney Creek in Region 1-A action.
With the win, the Rangers improve to 1-2 on the season.
The Rangers set the tone early.
Unaka got on the board first as AJ Greenless opened the scoring on the game’s opening drive. After the Ranger defense came up with a big stop on the ensuing Cosby drive, Bryinn Repass had a big run to put the Rangers inside the Cosby 1, and UHS scored a few plays later as Greenless ran around the edge for the short touchdown.
The two-point conversion gave UHS a 14-0 lead after a quarter of play.
Unaka opened the second-quarter scoring early in the frame as Greenless scored his third touchdown of the night with 9:09 left in the second. The two-point conversion was unsuccessful.
Repass pushed the lead out later in the quarter with a two-yard touchdown run.
Cosby scored two touchdowns later in the half, but Unaka held a 26-14 advantage at the half.
Unaka erased any thoughts of a Cosby comeback in the second half with a stingy defense that didn’t allow the Eagles to score in the second half.
The Rangers added to the lead late in the third quarter when Connor McKinney scored on a short run and then secured the win in the fourth with a second McKinney touchdown.
Greenless finished the night with three touchdowns, while McKinney had two touchdowns. Repass added a rushing touchdown.
Defensively, Jaycob Niddifer had two interceptions, and Isaiah White also added a pick for the Ranger defense.
