Russell lifts EHS past Science Hill

A thrilling shot proved to be the difference for Elizabethton.

Corey Russell hit a miracle shot to push the Cyclones to a 65-63 win over Science Hill on Tuesday. In the girls’ game, the Lady Hilltoppers pulled away for a 60-41 victory inside Treadway Gymnasium.


The boys’ saw the teams trade punches throughout the first half as the Cyclones trailed 34-31 at the break. Science Hill slowly increased their lead to as many as 10 points in the second half, but Elizabethton battled back.

The teams swapped the lead in the final minute setting the stage for Russell shot after collecting a rebound after falling down.The Hilltoppers had a chance to tie the game but missed on the buzzer beater effort.

Michael Robinson had 27 points. Alex Norwood had 15 points, and Hayden Townsend had 10 points.

In the girls’ game, Elizabethton took advantage of a slow Science Hill start.

The Lady Cyclones kept pace and held a 24-18 lead at the half. Science Hill, however, took control in the third quarter by outscoring EHS 25-10.

Haley Burleson led EHS with 15 points. Brittany Campbell had eight points.
