It was a clash of undefeated teams on Saturday evening. The Lady Cyclones made sure defense was the winning ingredient.
Elizabethton picked up a 55-37 win on Saturday over previously unbeaten Greenville to move to 8-0 on the year.
Kayla Marosites tallied 14 points to lead Elizabethton – who held the Lady Greene Devils to just 20 points in three quarters of play. Emily Kiser and Kelci Marosites had 11 and nine points, respectively.
Emily Shubert added eight points.
Gate City 46, Elizabethton 33 (Girls)
The third quarter proved to be the difference as the Lady Blue Devils used a strong second half effort to take a 46-33 win over the Bulldogs.
Hampton jumped out to an 8-2 lead, but Gate City answered to pull within one entering the second quarter. Gate City took a 25-21 lead at the half.
Shyanne Tuelle had 13 points to lead the way for Hampton.
Happy Valley 89, Karns 33 (Girls)
The Lady Warriors scored early and often to roll to a 89-33 victory on Saturday at Maryville Heritage.
Kalee Johnson led Happy Valley, who had four players in double-digits, with 25 points. HV steamrolled to a 22-6 lead after a quarter of play, and held a 42-19 advantage at the half.
Emily Whitaker had 16 points. Kaitlyn Roberts and Adrienne Heneger had 11 points a piece, while Bayley McGee scored seven points.
Happy Valley 43, Marion (Va.) 35 (Boys)
The Warriors picked up their second straight win at the Bearcat Invitational with a 43-35 victory over Marion. The Warriors jumped out to a 12-7 lead after a quarter of play, and extended that to a 22-16 advantage at the half.
Marion trimmed the gap in the second half, but Happy Valley held on for the victory by outscoring Marion 14-7 in the final quarter.
Nathan Kyte had 18 points, and Austin Hicks added 10 points.
