Happy Valley used a strong second quarter to take control on Thursday night.
The Warriors scored 35 points in the second quarter to storm to a 55-20 win over Cloudland on Warrior Hill. It was Happy Valley’s first game on the new turf field.
HV tallied 398 yards of total offense with 286 yards on the ground. Cloudland, who was missing two key offensive pieces due to injury, finished with 209 yards.
Keelin Releford had 102 yards rushing on four carries with three touchdowns, and also added a 49-yard receiving touchdown to lead the Warriors. Lane Parker had two carries for 119 yards and two scores, and also added a 52-yard punt return for a score and an 84-yard interception return for a touchdown.
Gavyn Shell had 70 yards on 17 carries and a score to lead Cloudland, while Walker Gouge added 54 yards on 10 carries. Bryce Birchfield added 44 yards on eight carries and a touchdown. Birchfield and Gouge connected for a 60-yard passing touchdown.
Happy Valley struck first as Parker scored on a 65-yard run on the second play from scrimmage, but Cloudland answered as Gouge caught a 60-yard touchdown pass from Birchfield.
Releford and Parker added rushing touchdowns to give HV a 20-6 lead after a quarter of play.
In the second quarter, HV took control.
After a Releford touchdown from 21 yards out, Parker added a 52-yard punt return for a touchdown. Releford added two touchdowns – a 56-yard touchdown run and a 49-yard catch from Gabe McDougald – and Parker ended the half with an 84-yard interception return.
AJ Rangel added the extra point to give HV a 55-6 halftime advantage. Rangel finished the game 3-for-5 on extra points.
Cloudland capped the scoring in the second half as Shell scored on a 10-yard run while Birchfield added a two-yard rush.
