When push came to shove, Hampton’s Tatum Street wouldn’t budge.

The Lady Bulldog sophomore finished with a team-high 15 points and helped Hampton pull away late with a 56-53 win over Sequoyah in the consolation bracket play of the Johnson City Honda Trailblazer Classic on Monday night.

Hampton will advance to play Morristown East, a winner over Volunteer, on Tuesday evening at 4 p.m. for fifth place.

Street had eight of her points fall in the second half while Alexus Grubbs (12 points) tacked on four of her own in the fourth quarter, including the go-ahead free throws to give head coach Bud Hazelwood’s team the win.

The Lady Chiefs would make things interesting late in the fourth, knotting the score at 50 apiece but after Street and a Lady Chief traded scores, senior Kim Swearingen knocked in a quick layup to head up the final push of momentum.

Freshman Shyanne Tuelle joined Grubbs with 12 points to finish in double figures. Swearingen finished with six points, along with Hope Bridgeman. Bridgeman saw her final point totals come from the 3-point arc.

Post players Madi Weier and Megan Garland added a bucket each while Stephanie Carrier tacked on a point from the charity stripe.
