Richmond, KY – After a recent appearance in the Kentucky-Tennessee all-star football game, Elizabethton High School standout running back Ethan Thomas will make the Bluegrass State his home in 2015.

CarterCountySports.com learned Sunday night that Thomas made his commitment to continue his football career with the Eastern Kentucky University Colonels following graduation from EHS for the upcoming year.

EKU is part of the NCAA Division I (FCS) and competes in the Ohio Valley Conference with collegiate programs: Austin Peay, Eastern Illinois, Tennessee Tech, Southeast Missouri, Tennessee State, Jacksonville State and Murray State.

The Colonels finished the 2014 season with a 8-4 record overall with a 6-2 mark in the OVC and earned a first round appearance in the NCAA FCS playoffs.

Elizabethton finished 8-3 for the 2014 season and accounted for a 37-12 record in Thomas’ four years with the Cyclone program.

Thomas ends his career with the Cyclones with 6,436 yards rushing, a northeast Tennessee record, and accounted for over 70 touchdowns during his career, 35 coming last season.

The senior also earned offensive MVP honors in the East-West all-star football game held in December.

EKU opens the 2015 season on with a home contest against Valparaiso on Sept. 3 at 7 p.m. The Colonels are coached by Dean Hood, entering his seventh year at the helm.
