When it came time to decide the Best of Carter County Sports Male Athlete of the Year, it wasn’t an easy decision.
However, a record breaking season proved to be the difference as Elizabethton’s Ethan Thomas takes the honor. It is the second consecutive season that Thomas captured the honor.
On the football field, the Western Kentucky signee became the leading rusher in East Tennessee after finishing his storied career with 6,436 rushing yards. Thomas recorded over 70 touchdowns in his career, 35 of much came in his senior campaign.
Thomas helped pace Elizabethton to an 8-3 record in 2015 and the Cyclones went 37-12 during his four years.
At the East-West game, Thomas was named the offensive MVP.
On the track, Thomas advanced to the state meet in the long jump where he finished fifth and was also a member of the 4×800 relay team.
Thomas joins the Elizabethton Lady Cyclones basketball team and Kayla Marosites as honorees in the Best of Carter County Sports.
