Thursday Round-up: Lady ‘Landers Roll; HV Baseball Edges Unaka, Bulldogs Sweep

The Lady ‘Landers rolled to a district win on Thursday.

Ryan Turbyfill went 4-for-4 at the plate, while Saharra McKinney and Kendall Birchfield added multiple hits for the Lady ‘Landers.

In the pitching circle, Karah Fields was dominant as she threw a no-hitter and recorded seven strikeouts.

Chuckey-Doak 6, Happy Valley 4
The Lady Warriors were unable to complete a late-game rally.

After CD scored six runs in the first five innings, HV got on the board in the top of the sixth with an unearned run.

HV plated three runs in the seventh and got the tying run to the plate, but was unable to extend the game.

Rice was 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBI. Maddie Lingerfelt also had three hits, while Ella Marvel had two hits.

Baseball
Happy Valley 10, Unaka 0
The Warriors picked up a county win on Thursday evening.
Andrew Little hit a homerun, while Hunter Smith was 2-for-4 at the plate for the Warriors. Drew Blevins struck out six batters for HV in three innings of work.
Unaka’s Landon Ramsey struck out 10 Warrior batters.

Hampton 8, Washburn 1
Hampton 14, Washburn 5
The Bulldogs made a clean sweep on the road.

In the first game, Hampton pulled away to take a 7-0 run after two and a half innings, and never looked back from there by outhitting the Pirates 12-1 in the game.

Conor Jones went 3-for-3 with two RBI, while Brody Hicks, Jonathon Greenwell, and Chance Point each had two hits for Hampton.

On the mound, Hicks struck out seven batters and allowed just one hit.

The second game saw Morgan Lyons have a big game as he had an inside-the-park grandslam as well as a triple in the fourth inning.

Lyons finished the game with a 2-for-2 with four RBI. Hicks added two hits. In all, Hampton had 12 hits.

Point picked up the win as he struck out nine batters and allowed four unearned runs on one hit.
