Thursday Round-Up: Warriors Outlast Unaka; Lady Rangers, Lady Warriors Take Wins

Happy Valley 9, Unaka 4
The Warriors were able to pull away from Unaka for a county win on Thursday evening.

HV jumped out to a 3-0 lead after two complete, but the Rangers trimmed the lead to a run in the home side of the third.

With four runs in the top of the fourth and two more in the fifth, the Warriors were able to outlast Unaka for the win.

Pedro Colunga finished with two hits and three RBI, while Aiden Paul and Ty Johnson had two hits apiece. Carlos Lopez scored three runs.

Nakota Graham and Bryce Garrett had two RBI.

Joe-Z Blamo and Landon Ramsey led the Rangers with two hits, while Brayden Powell and Logan Lewis recorded two RBI.

David Crockett 9, Elizabethton 7
Elizabethton was unable to fend off a late Crockett rally.

The Pioneers scored five runs in the top of the seventh to take the lead and the win despite a hard-fought battle from the Cyclones.

Brilee Hurley had two hits and two RBI, while Hayden Nave added two hits and an RBI for the Cyclones. JD Hooks,

Brayden Buckles, Peyton Johnson, and Bryson Rowland all ended the game with a hit and an RBi.

Avery County (N.C.) 15, Hampton 3
The Bulldogs were unable to overcome a slow start against the Vikings on Thursday.

Avery led 4-1 after an inning of play and plated 10 runs in the third to take full control. Hampton continued to battle but was unable to mount a rally.

Brody Hicks was 2-for-3 at the plate with Elisha Henson, Josh Khen, Jaden Kuhn, and Chance Point each adding a hit.

Softball
Unaka 1, Johnson County 0
The Lady Rangers won a tight contest on Thursday evening.

Haley Gilman scored the lone run on a passed pass as part of a two-hit night. Kendall Barton, Lyndie Ramsey, and Haley Taylor had two hits apiece as well.

Trinity Bowers struck out eight batters and just allowed three hits in a shutout performance in the pitching circle.

Happy Valley 17, West Greene 14
The Lady Warriors jumped out early and then held on to take a road win on Thursday.

After West Greene scored two runs in the first inning, HV erupted for 10 runs in the top half of the second. The Lady Buffaloes trimmed the lead, but HV answered each time to secure the win.

Makayla Miller was 4-for-4 with five RBI, while Juley Nieminski was 3-for-5 with two RBI. Ella Marvel also added three hits for HV.

Marvel struck out eight batters in the pitching circle to pitch up the win.

North Greene 7, Cloudland 4
Cloudland battled back but was unable to overcome a big opening frame from North Greene.

The Lady Huskies scored five runs in the opening frame to take an early lead. Cloudland slowly chipped away at the lead but was unable to rally back past North Greene.

Ella Benfield was 2-for-2 at the plate and recorded four stolen bases, while Regan Blair added a hit and also stole home plate for a run.

Kendall Birchfield struck out five batters as she allowed just two earned runs on nine hits.
