Tuesday Round-up: Cyclones, Lady Cyclones Take Wins, Unaka Softball Wins County Game with HV

Elizabethton 4, Unicoi County 1
Elizabethton picked up a league win on Tuesday at Unicoi.

EHS scored single runs in the second and third inning and then again in the fifth and sixth to outlast the Blue Devils.

Steven Meadows and Kaleb Hambrick had two hits apiece, while six other Cyclones recorded a hit – including a Hayden Nave homerun.

Rhett Slagle picked up the win in nearly five innings of work as he allowed just one earned run on four hits with five strikeouts.

In two innings of relief work, Meadows allowed just one hit with four strikeouts.

North Greene 6, Unaka 1 (8 innings)
The Rangers dropped a heartbreaker on Tuesday.

After the seventh inning ended in a 1-1 stalemate, North Greene plated five runs in the extra inning to take the win.

Jamol Blamo, Brayden Powell, and Jacob Nidiffer had two hits a piece, while Landon Lewis added a hit. Powell recorded an RBI.

On the mound, Ramsey struck out 11 batters while allowing just three earned runs on five hits in seven innings of work.

University High 13, Hampton 3
Hampton was unable to overcome a quick start by the Bucs.

UH scored six runs in the bottom of the first and extended the lead over the next two innings.

The Bulldogs battled back as Chance Point hit a double to drive Josh Whitson across the plate, and Brody Hicks pushed Point across the plate in the top of the third.

Point touched home plate again in the top of the fifth when Jayden Kuhn put the play in the play.

Whitson had five strikeouts on the mound, while Point went 1-for-2 at the plate.

Softball
Unaka 11, Happy Valley 0
The Lady Rangers picked up a county win on Tuesday afternoon

Unaka outhit HV 12-3 and methodically pulled away for the win.

Jill Faust was 3-for-3 to lead Unaka, while Lyndie Ramsey and Mattie Salyer had two hits apiece.

Trinity Bowers recorded nine strikeouts while allowing just three hits to pick up the win in the pitching circle. Bowers also added three RBI.

Reagan Street, Ella Marvel, and Trinity Bowers each had a hit for the Lady Warriors.

Elizabethton 4, Bellbrook 3
The Lady Cyclones scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to regain the lead and take a hard-fought victory in their first Tuesday game of the Riverdale Tournament.

In the home side of the sixth, Kenidy Harris hit a single to drive Ember Jensen across home plate to tie things up, and then Cheyenne Poiroux hit a double to score Harris home to lift EHS into the lead.

Harris went 2-for-3 with three RBI, while Emma O’Quinn, Mollie Johnson, Lela Byrd, Lana Ward, Poiroux, and Jensen each had a hit.

In the pitching circle, Byrd had a dominating performance as she struck out 10 batters while allowing just two earned runs on five hits.

Elizabethton 11, North Daviess (In.) 5
The Lady Cyclones jumped out early and rolled to a win in the nightcap.

EHS took a 3-1 lead after an inning of play and held a 10-3 advantage after four complete.

Harris had four RBI and three hits to lead the way, while Jensen added three hits. Hannah Morgan, Sadie Williams, O’Quinn, and Byrd had two hits a piece.

Lilly McDuffie picked up the win in the circle as she allowed just four earned runs on nine hits in a complete-game effort.
