Tuesday Round-up: Hampton Sweeps Unicoi; Lady Cyclones Roll Past West Ridge

Elizabethton 71, West Ridge 37
The Lady Cyclones hit the gas in the second quarter and never looked back.

Seven Elizabethton players scored in the frame while the Lady Cyclones held West Ridge to just two field goals in the period to outscore the Lady Wolves 26-7 in the frame. That allowed EHS to take a 47-21 lead into the half.

From there, it was all Elizabethton.

Lina Lyon led EHS with 17 points, while Olivia Holly had 14 points. Marlee Mathena and Reiley Whitson had 11 points.

In all, 10 Lady Cyclones scored points in the game.

Hampton 55, Unicoi County 36
The Lady Bulldogs used a balanced attack to roll past Unicoi County Tuesday night and stay undefeated on the season.

Taylor Berry hit a pair of 3-pointers and Piper Helle and Madi McClain hit a 3-pointer apiece to jump-start the Lady Bulldogs to a 17-10 lead after a quarter of play.

Hampton doubled up UC in the second to push the lead to 33-18 at the break and then kept the Lady Blue Devils at bay in the second half.

Macy Henry led the way with 15 points, while McClain and Helle had 11 points apiece. Linsey Jenkins and Berry had nine points each.

Sullivan East 65, Unaka 43
The Lady Rangers were unable to overcome a first-half deficit on Tuesday night.

A back-and-forth quarter saw the Lady Patriots take an 18-12 lead into the second stanza, but East outscored Unaka 15-4 in the second quarter to take a 33-16 lead into the half.

Unaka kept battling but was unable to mount a rally.

Lyndie Ramsey had 21 points. Jill Faust had nine points for Unaka.

Boys
Hampton 65, Unicoi County 61
A back-and-forth battle went the way of the Bulldogs as Hampton picked up a strong nonconference road win.

The teams traded shots in the opening quarter as Hampton held an 18-17 lead after the first quarter, but the Blue Devils took a 32-30 lead into the half.

The Bulldogs, however, continued to be strong by regaining the lead and holding a 49-46 lead with a quarter to play.

The back-and-forth nature continued in the fourth quarter with Hampton holding on for the win.

Cadon Buckles had 20 points to pace Hampton, while Hayden Campbell scored 18 points in the win. Geno Carrico added 12 points.

West Ridge 58, Elizabethton 45
The Cyclones were unable to overcome an early deficit at West Ridge.

The Wolves opened the game on a 13-0 run and held a 13-3 lead after a quarter of play. The Cyclones found their footing in the second quarter, but West Ridge held a 15-point lead at the break.

Elizabethton fought in the second half making runs to cut into the lead, but was unable to overcome the deficit.

Dalton Mitchell had 15 points to lead EHS, while Andrew Barnett had 10 points. Mason Ball added nine points.

Sullivan East 62, Unaka 49
The Rangers were unable to bounce back from a Sullivan East run in the third quarter on Stoney Creek.

After the Patriots held a 15-8 advantage after eight minutes of play, Unaka closed the gap by outscoring SE 21-15 in the second quarter to pull within one at the half.

East, however, used a 19-5 run in the third quarter to get some breathing room. The Rangers looked to make a run of their own but were unable to close the gap.

Mason Wilson had 13 points to pace Unaka. Marcus Shomaker had 12 points. Brayden Powell and Joe-Z Blamo had seven points each.
