Tuesday Round-up: Lady Bulldogs, Lady ‘Landers, and Warriors Take Wins

Boys
Chuckey-Doak 60, Hampton 48
Hampton was unable to make a late run in a back-and-forth battle on the road.

The teams traded shots and runs throughout the game as CD led 14-10 after a quarter of play, and the Bulldogs tied the game at 16-16 early in the second. Chuckey-Doak used a run to push the lead to 25-19 at the half.

The second half was much the same as Hampton took a 33-32 lead midway through the third, but the Black Knights regained a 39-35 lead after three complete quarters. HHS trimmed a double-digit deficit in the fourth to four points but was unable to cut any further into the lead.

Geno Carrico had 12 points for the Bulldogs, while Michael Anspaugh had 10 points. Dylan Trivett ended the game with five points.

Christian Derry led CD with 23 points.

Happy Valley 70, West Greene 56
The Warriors rolled to a win over West Greene on Tuesday.

Darian Jackson had 23 points to pace the HV attack. Dakota Grindstaff ended the game with 18 points for HV.

West Ridge 52, Elizabethton 45
The Cyclones dropped a hard-fought road game on Tuesday.

After West Ridge jumped out to a 9-0 lead to open the game, EHS got things going and ended the quarter on a 10-6 run to close the gap to six points. EHS continued to have momentum in the second and took a 23-22 halftime lead.

West Ridge, however, held EHS to just five points in the third as they took control and pulled away for the win.

Andrew Barnett had 15 points for the Cyclones. Will Churchill scored nine points, and Zack Wallin ended the game with seven points.

Mitchell County (N.C.) 67, Cloudland 49
The ‘Landers came up short against their North Carolina foes on Tuesday night.

After Mitchell took a 17-9 lead into the second quarter, CHS continued to battle throughout the second quarter. Mitchell led 28-22 at the half.

The Mountaineers, however, slowly pulled away in the second half despite a hard-fought Mitchell effort.

Nick Caraway had 25 points to lead Cloudland, while Dylan McClellan had 11 points for CHS.

Girls
Hampton 56, Chuckey-Doak 41
The Lady Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead and never looked back.

Hampton raced out to a 16-9 lead in the first quarter and maintained a 24-12 halftime lead. From there, it continued to be all Lady Bulldogs.

Faye Carrico had 12 points to lead Hampton, while Macy Henry and Piper Helle scored 10 points apiece.

Cloudland 58, Mitchell County (N.C.) 31
The Lady ‘Landers rolled to a nonconference win on Tuesday night.

Cloudland held Mitchell to just four points in the first quarter and extended the lead to 27-10 at the half.

From there, the Lady ‘Landers were able to cruise to the win.

Izabella Christman had 14 points, while Ryan Turbyfill had 13 points. Makinna Shell scored eight points in the win.

West Ridge 50, Elizabethton 38
The Lady Cyclones were unable to hold onto an early lead on Tuesday.

Elizabethton jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first quarter, but West Ridge rallied to take a 12-11 lead in the closing seconds of the first quarter. From there, West Ridge slowly pulled away despite a hard-fought effort from the Lady Cyclones.

Kalli Shepard had 15 points for EHS, while Marlee Mathena had 11 points.
