Tuesday Round-up: Lady Bulldogs Roll To Big H Christmas Classic Title

Girls
Hampton 64, Cherokee 36
The Lady Bulldogs rolled to the title in the Big H Christmas Bash at Cherokee.

Linsey Jenkins scored nine points in the opening quarter to help set the tone as Hampton ran to a 23-3 lead after a quarter of play. The Lady Bulldogs outscored Cherokee 23-11 in the second quarter to leave no doubt.

Madi McClain – who scored her 1,000th career point in the game – was named the tournament MVP and finished with 12 points in the game.

Jenkins finished with 16 points, while Henry had 15 points. Both were named to the all-tournament team.

Piper Helle had 10 points.

Elizabethton 63, White County (Ga.) 49
The Lady Cyclones pulled away to advance to the Championship game in the Seahawk Classic in Hilton Head.
Elizabethton will face Westview for the championship.

On Tuesday, EHS used a balanced attack to turn a two-point lead after a quarter of play into a double-digit advantage at the half.

That proved to be enough as the Lady Cyclones were able to keep White County at bay.

Lina Lyon had 15 points to lead the way, while Marlee Mathena had 14 points. Reiley Whitson had 11 points for the Lady Cyclones.

Cumberland Gap 40, Happy Valley 18
The Lady Warriors were unable to keep pace in the fourth quarter as Cumberland Gap outscored HV 19-2 in the final eight minutes.

HV led 4-2 after the first quarter and maintained a 6-5 lead at the half as points were hard to come by. Cumberland Gap led by five entering the final quarter.

Marcida Moore and Kadie Bailey had five points apiece to lead Happy Valley.

Boys
Hampton 77, Lake Mary (FL) 55
The Bulldogs pulled away and never looked back in the second day in Orlando.

After holding a 16-11 lead after the first quarter, Hampton raced out to a 37-21 lead at the half. From there, the Bulldogs hit cruise control to take the win.

Cadon Buckles had 27 points to lead Hampton, while Hayden Campbell had 21 points. Dylan Trivett and Michael Anspaugh had eight and six points, respectively.

Jenkins (Ky.) 60, Happy Valley 56
The Warriors dropped a hard-fought battle at the Big H Christmas Classic at Cherokee.

HV erased a double-digit halftime deficit but was unable to pull out the win in the closing moments.

Dakota Grindstaff finished with 12 points, while James Murray had 11 points. Ron Parker tallied eight points.
