Happy Valley, Unaka girls record victories

It was a busy night across the county, and proved to be a great night for the ladies teams as Elizabethton, Unaka and Happy Valley all claimed victories.

Happy Valley 64, Sullivan South 48 (Girls)
Kalee Johnson continued an impressive junior campaign as she recorded 28 points and 13 rebounds to pace the Lady Warriors to an important Three Rivers Conference victory. Happy Valley held a 31-24 halftime lead and never looked back.

Jenna Eaton finished with 13 points for the Lady Warriors, who moved to 7-2 overall and 3-1 in conference play.

Sullivan South 67, Happy Valley 58 (Boys)
Happy Valley was unable to mount a late rally as they fell 67-58 in conference play to Sullivan South. The Warriors, who led 30-29 at the half, was unable to overcome a 16-2 Rebel run to open the second half.

Josh Hammonds had a team high 16 points to pace the Warriors. Happy Valley moves to 3-6 overall and 1-3 in Three Rivers Conference action.

Unaka 56, University High 42 (Girls)
The Lady Rangers erased a nine-point halftime deficit to take a 56-42 conference victory over University High on Tuesday night at Brooks Gym. The teams combined for 16 3-pointers, and Unaka outscored the Lady Jr. Bucs 18-6 to take a three-point lead into the final quarter. In the final quarter, the Lady Rangers defense limited UH to just four points to take the win.

Hannah Tipton had 13 points for Unaka, while Madison Ensor and Katlyn Weaver tossed in 11 points apiece. The win improves Unaka to 3-3 overall and 1-0 in conference play.

University High 67, Unaka 50 (Boys)
The Rangers were unable to stay hot in the second half as they fell 67-50 to University High on Tuesday night. After leading 17-9 after the end of the first quarter, the Rangers saw the Jr. Bucs storm back to take a 29-25 lead at the half. In the second half, University High maintained their advantage throughout the third quarter to hold a 42-38 lead, and then raced away in the fourth.

Dylan Carrier had 18 points to pace Unaka. Joe Searfoss tallied 10 points in the game.
