Unaka Baseball takes win; CHS and UHS softball

Unaka 4, University High 2 (baseball)
A night after being upset by the Bucs, the Rangers took care of business on Stoney Creek.

Unaka took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning, and scored two more in the fourth after the Bucs had tied the game to take control.

Daniel Ensor went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the rangers, while John-Wesley Hardin had a 2-for-3 performance.

On the mound, Hardin allowed two runs on three hits for Unaka.


University High 4, Unaka 3 (softball)
The Lady Rangers were unable to dig out of a three-run deficit in a 4-3 decision to the Lady Bucs.

Madison Pierce, Katlyn Weaver, Sarah Tipton and Haley Fair all had two hits for Unaka, while Sarah Hardin and Sidney Markland each added a hit.

In the circle, Corie Scheuttler allowed four runs on six hits with nine strikeouts.

Cloudland 3, Mitchell County 0 (softball)
Mitchell County 3, Cloudland 2 (softball)
The Lady ‘Landers split a nonconference matchup on Wednesday afternoon.

In the first game, Mattea Jennings and Johanna Johnson scored in the first inning to give Cloudland an early 2-0 lead, and Shian Strickland crossed home plate in the third to account for the final score.

The second game saw Mitchell slip past in the closing stages for the win. Kenzie Birchfield and Strickland represented the two Cloudland runs.
