The Rangers gave it their all on Friday night. Unfortunately, a late run proved to be a season ender.

No. 6 Unaka rallied to take a fourth quarter lead, but No. 3 North Greene limited the Rangers at the end of the quarter to take a 57-50 victory in the District 1-A Tournament at Daniel Boone High School.

In the first quarter, Troy Hall opened the scoring with a trey, but Joe Searfoss countered on the other end for Unaka. After the teams traded shots, Will West scored five straight points to push the North Greene lead to 12-7 at the end of the first quarter.

West and Hall hit shots to open the second quarter to push the Huskies’ advantage to nine points. North Greene went on a quick 8-0 run to take the game’s first double-digit lead. However, Unaka’s Kyler Lewis and Searfoss cut the NG lead to 25-18 at the half.

The Huskies opened the third quarter quickly with six straight points, but the Rangers answered on the other end to pull within five points. West and Britton snapped the Unaka run with baskets. However, Lewis and Searfoss sparked a 9-2 run to tie the game at 40-40 heading into the final quarter.

Hall broke the stalemate with a trey on North Greene’s opening possession of the final period. However, Searfoss and Brandon Guinn shot the Rangers in a 44-42 lead with 5:52 to play.

Hall countered with runner and was followed up by a Mark Trent jumper to put North Greene back into the lead. From there, the Huskies limited Unaka to just four points in the final two minutes to preserve the victory.

Searfoss paced Unaka with 26 points , while Lewis tallied 10 points.

Zane Britton led the way with 22 points for North Greene.
