Unaka made sure they stayed a step ahead on Wednesday night. It proved to be a championship recipe.
The Lady Rangers took a 5-0 victory over North Greene to capture the Region 1-A Softball Championship.
With the win, Unaka will welcome Tellico Plains on Friday in sectional action.
Unaka struck early as Madison Pierce and Erica Potter scored off an NG error in the bottom of the first to give UHS a 2-0 lead.
Neither team was able to plate another run until Unaka got the bats rolling in the sixth. Sarah Tipton drove Pierce across home plate with a single, and Katlyn Weaver hit a double that scored Potter and Tipton to give the Lady Rangers a 5-0 lead.
Corie Schuettler recorded two strikeouts in the top of the seventh as Unaka secured the win.
Pierce went 2-for-3, while Madison Ensor went 2-for-4, while Potter and Madison Ensor went 2-for-4. Sarah Hardin, Sydney Markland, Weaver and Tipton all recorded a hit.
Schuettler pitched a gem as she allowed just two hits.
