The Rangers had a goal in mind on Friday night. John Ramsey led the way to be sure they achieved it.

Ramsey threw for two touchdowns and Unaka clinched the No. 3 seed from Region 1-A with a 14-8 victory on Friday night over Hancock County.

The win, which improved the Rangers to 2-7, was a hard-fought battle from the opening kickoff.

Unaka struck first when Ramsey found Devon Jarrett for a short touchdown, and Micah Hunt added the two-point conversion.

Hancock County, however, responded right before half with a 15-yard touchdown from Zach Seal.

The Rangers quickly struck first to open the third quarter as Brandon Guinn caught a Ramsey pass for a 9-yard touchdown. That pushed the lead to 14-8 early in the third quarter.

From there, the Unaka defense kept the Indians at bay to secure the win.

Hunt led the way for Unaka with 30 carries for 142 yards.

The Rangers will return to nonconference action in the final week of the regular season as they will host Midway on Thursday night.
