Unaka Pulls Away From Harlan For Win

Unaka’s passing attack was on point Friday night.

The Rangers pulled away in the final quarter to take a 52-34 victory over Harlan (Ky.) on the road Friday night.

With the win, Unaka improves to 4-2 on the season.

Landon Ramsey scored six total touchdowns, while Devin Ramsey caught five touchdowns on the night while totaling 18 catches for 352 yards – both which moved him to No. 2 in the state record books.

L. Ramsey was 27-of-42 for 432 yards passing ad also added 53 yards on 15 carries.

The Rangers got on the board first as L. Ramsey hit D. Ramsey for a short touchdown, and then L. Ramsey found Jamol Blamo for the two-point conversion. The Green Dragons, however, marched down the field and answered on the ensuing drive.

That tied the game at 8-8 after a quarter of play.

Harlan opened the scoring in the second quarter with back-to-back scores to take a 20-8 lead.

Unaka battled back in a big way.

The Rangers trimmed the lead as D. Ramsey got open in the corner of the endzone and L. Ramsey found him for the touchdown.

After the defense forced Harlan off the field, Unaka tied the game at 20-20 when L. Ramsey scored on a quarterback draw up the middle with 4:14 left in the first half.

D. Ramsey stopped the next Harlan drive in Ranger territory with an interception. Neither team was able to get back on the board before half as the teams went to the locker room tied at 20-20.

On the kickoff to open the third quarter, TJ Thomas caught the kick at the 30 and was never touched on his way to the endzone for the touchdown. The two-point conversion was successful as L. Ramsey hit D. Ramsey.

Harlan tied the game at 28-28 with 8:48 to play in the third.

The Green Dragons regained the lead in the final minutes of the third with a defensive score, but Unaka stopped the two-point conversion.

Unaka trailed 34-28 after three complete quarters.

The fourth quarter was all Unaka.

L. Ramsey scored on a QB draw with 11:16 to play in the game, and the Rangers took the lead as Caleb Lydick caught a L. Ramsey for the two-point conversion.

The Ramsey brothers connected again with 7:16 to play in the game with a 23-yard touchdown and the two-point conversion to give UHS a 44-34 advantage.

The final score of the night as D. Ramsey caught another pass in the back of the endzone from L. Ramsey with 2:51 left. Blamo added the conversion to cap the scoring.

Blamo added 18 carries for 71 yards, while recording four catches for 26 yards. Lydick had 48 yards receiving on four catches.

The Rangers are slated to host Claiborne next Friday night for a non-conference matchup.
