Unaka softball punches ticket to Regional Championship

Unaka found cruise control on Monday.

The Lady Rangers scored early and often en route to a 17-0 victory over Northview Academy in the Region 1-A Softball tournament. With the win, Unaka will host North Greene in the Region 1-A Championship and also earned a bid for Friday’s substate.

The Lady Rangers scored two runs apiece in the first and second innings, and then exploded for five runs in the third. Any thought of a Northview comeback was squashed as Unaka added eight runs combined in the final two innings.

Katlyn Weaver went 3-for-4 with five RBI, while Madison Pierce went 3-for-5 with four RBI. Haley Fair also added three hits, while Madison Ensor had two hits.

Sarah Hardin pitched five innings with eight strikeouts and didn’t allow a hit.
