Unaka Sweeps West Greene

Unaka held firm on their home court Monday night.

The Rangers and Lady Rangers picked up a nonconference sweep of West Greene as the boys held off a furious Buffalo rally to take an 86-80 lead while the Lady Rangers rolled to a 63-38 win.

In the boys’ game, Unaka took control early.

The Rangers jumped out to a 24-14 lead and pushed the advantage to 20 points at the half.

The Buffaloes trimmed the lead to 13 points during the third quarter, but a quick Unaka run sparked by a pair of 3-pointers pushed the advantage to 67-47.

West Greene, however, battled back to close within a point, but the Rangers took care of business late to secure the win.

Joseph Slagle had 29 points to pace the Rangers, while Joe-Z Blamo had 16 points. Landon Ramsey and Gavin Seigfried had 14 and 12 points, respectively.

In the girls’ game, Unaka hit the has early and rolled to the win.

Unaka jumped out to a 14-5 lead and maintained an 18-9 advantage after a quarter of play. The Lady Rangers continued to roll as they pushed the lead to 33-18 by the break.

From there, the Lady Rangers cruised to the win.

Lyndie Ramsey had 20 points to pace Unaka, while Macy Ensor tallied 15 points. Tara Whitehead tossed in six points.
