The TSWA Basketball All-State teams had a Unaka flair this past week.
Unaka’s Michelle Shields and John Hardin were selected to the Class A All-State teams.
Shields led Unaka with an outstanding season. The junior averaged 19.7 points per game. She also recorded 2.9 rebounds per game, 2.8 assists, and 1.6 steals.
Shields helped the Lady Rangers to their first district tournament championship since 2005 and the first substate berth since 2018.
For the Rangers, Hardin had an outstanding sophomore campaign. The sophomore averaged 23 points per game and 10 rebounds per game. He also added 3.1 blocks per game.
The Rangers reached Region 1-A semifinals before coming up heartbreakingly short of the Class A Substate round.
