Even though the playoffs are two weeks away, they started on Friday night on Warrior Hill, and Happy Valley delivered for Senior Night.

The Warriors rolled to a 72-14 win over Cumberland Gap in a game that was never close. The win sets up a showdown with South Greene for the final playoff spot in Region 1-2A.

Happy Valley struck early and often.

Senior Justin Morefield opened the scoring with a 50-yard throw to Josh Hammonds, and Mookie Madison escaped for an 80-yard touchdown to push the Warriors to a 16-0 lead just four minutes into the game. Sage Haun hit Hammonds for a 93-yard touchdown to cap the first quarter scoring as HV took a 24-0 lead into the second stanza.

Austin Hicks rumbled in for a 14-yard score, but Cumberland Gap answered on their ensuing drive. However, Madison scored on the next two Happy Valley drives, and Hicks nabbed an interception and score to give the Warriors a 43-point lead.

Haun hit Hammonds for the final score in the first half as Happy Valley maintained a 58-8 lead at the break.

The Warriors added a Tyler Guinn score in the third and fourth quarter to cap off the night.

Madison finished with 207 yards, while Hammonds had 160 yards on three catches.

Jason Jarrett’s squad improved to 5-4 with the win.

Happy Valley now turns their attention to South Greene with a playoff spot on the line. That game is currently scheduled for Friday night.
