Happy Valley picked up a statement win in the regular season finale.
The Warriors rolled to a 21-0 victory over South Greene in Region 1-2A action to claim a share of the region title with the Rebels and Hampton. With the win, HV finishes the regular season with a 5-5 overall record and 3-1 in region action.
Happy Valley is set to open the TSSAA playoffs next Friday at Oneida.
On Friday night, the Warriors set the tone early.
Dakota Cochran capped off a four-play drive to open the game with a 24-yard touchdown run, and Michael Harrah added the extra point as HV held a 7-0 advantage 1:30 into the game. The Warrior defense took over and held the Rebels to a three-and-out on their first series of the game after Luke Naylor recorded a sack on third down.
HV moved the ball inside the SG 5-yard line on the next series, but was stopped at the one on fourth down. Each team forced a turnover, including a Cochran interception for the Warriors, and neither offense was able to add points to the point as Happy Valley held a 7-0 lead at the half.
In the second half, the mist and rain started to pick up and the Warriors started to leave no doubt. The HV defense recorded another three-and-out to open the half, and Jordan Campell took advantage of great field position as the speedy back broke free for a 17-yard touchdown.
Blake Young nabbed a South Greene pass for an interception that set-up a 9-yard touchdown run by Cochran to give HV a 21-0 lead midway through the third.
From there, it was all Warriors.
Happy Valley now turns attention to Oneida – who defeated Coalfield 7-3 on Friday night. The Indians enter the playoffs with a 7-3 record.
