Warriors pickup win over Johnson County, Lady Warriors roll

The Warriors picked up a key Three Rivers win, while the Lady Warriors left no doubt against Johnson County on Tuesday night on Warrior Hill.

Happy Valley boys’ picked up a 60-52 win in the nightcap, while the Lady Warriors cruised to a 91-36 victory over the Lady Longhorns.

In the boys’ game, Johnson County took an 11-7 advantage after a quarter of play. Austin Hicks scored 10 points in the second quarter, but Happy Valley was unable to close into the gap as they trailed 28-24 at the half.

The third quarter, however, saw the tide turn for the Warriors.

Tyler Torbett scored seven points in the third quarter and Hicks added six more to his total to push HV up 41-38 heading to the final period. The free throw line was a busy place in the final quarter as the teams combined for six field goals and 36 free throw attempts. Happy Valley used five points from Sam Blevins to help ice the game.

Hicks led the way with 22 points, while Torbett scored 11 points in the win. Chris Young tallied nine points. Josh Hammonds tossed in seven points for the Warriors.

In the girls’ game, Charli Bare and Kalee Johnson set the tone early as the duo combined for 17 first quarter points to power the Lady Warriors to a 26-14 lead after a quarter of play.  With big shots from Hayley Green and Kaitlyn Roberts, Happy Valley continued to hold the momentum as they extended the lead to 45-27 at the break.

The Lady Warrior defense limited Johnson County to just seven points in the third quarter, and from there the Happy Valley continued to stay hot. HV led 65-34 at the end of the third.

Johnson tallied 24 points in the win, while Bare recorded 17 points. Adrienne Henegar tossed in 11 points. Emily Whitaker and Roberts had nine and seven points, respectively.
