Warriors See Season Come To A Close In District 1-2A Tournament

The Happy Valley boys’ basketball team could not extend the season on Tuesday night.

The Warriors fell 75-66 to Johnson County in the District 1-2A first round at Unicoi County. With the loss, HV’s season comes to a close, while Johnson County advanced to Friday night’s semifinals against South Greene.

Happy Valley didn’t go down without a fight.

Johnson County pulled out to a 19-11 lead after eight minutes of play. The Warriors, however, battled back to pull within two at the half as HV trailed 32-30.

The teams traded shots throughout the third quarter until a quick Longhorn run allowed JC to take a 52-46 lead after three.

Happy Valley continued to fight, but could not rally past the Longhorns in the closing minutes.

Ron Paul Parker scored 26 points to lead HV. Austin Nickles and Lane Parker added 11 points each while Grady Goulds tossed in eight points.

Carter Atwood led Johnson County with 26 points, while Carson Jennings added 17 points. Darren Chappell and Eli Tester finished with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
