Wednesday Round-up: Lady Bulldogs Run To District Win; Cyclones Win 12th Straight

The Lady Bulldogs pulled away in the closing stages to take a district win on Wednesday.

Hampton jumped out to a 5-0 lead through two and a half innings, but the Lady Black Knights battled back to even things up at 5-5 after three complete. Hampton, however, answered with six runs in the fifth to take momentum.

Hadley Vines was 3-for-5 at the plate with two RBI, while Maleah Scalf added four RBI as she went 2-for-3. Hannah Smith was 2-for-3 with a RBI.

Briley Davis recorded two RBI for the Lady Bulldogs. Emma Birchfield, Malory Lamb, Lauren Smith, and Dru Nickles each had an RBI apiece.

In the pitching circle, Davis struck out 11 batters as she allowed just five earned runs.

Daniel Boone 4, Elizabethton 2
The Lady Cyclones were unable to keep a rally going on Wednesday afternoon.

Down 4-0 entering the seventh, EHS plated two runs to cut into the deficit and was able to get the winning run on base. However, Daniel Boone was able to get out of the inning with the win.

Mikinna Blackwell had two hits and two RBI for EHS, while Katlyn Gryder and Piper Bennett each had two hits. Sadie Williams, Adrian Heading, and Brook Sparks recorded a hit apiece.

Lilly McDuffie allowed no unearned runs on six hits in six innings of work.

Elizabethton 4, Tennessee 0
The Cyclones made it 12 straight wins on Wednesday with a win at Tennessee High.

EHS opened the scoring with a single run in the first and second and then added two more in the third. From there, the Cyclones were able to keep the Vikings from crossing home plate to secure the win.

Rhett Slagle went 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Brayden Buckles had a hit and an RBI.

Steven Meadows finished with a hit for the orange and black.

Slagle struck out eight batters and allowed just three hits in four innings of work to pick up the win on the mound. In relief, Justin Whitehead struck out five batters and allowed just one hit in three innings of work.
