Elizabethton rolls past Cumberland Gap

It was good for the Lady Cyclones to get back on the court, and it certainly showed.

Elizabethton scored early and often to take an 83-30 victory over Cumberland Gap on Friday in the Region 1-AA quarterfinals. The win advanced the Lady Cyclones into Monday’s semifinals against Happy Valley at Grainger County.

Against Cumberland Gap, Kayla Marosites set the tone early for the Lady Cyclones as she hit five 3-pointers to power EHS to a 29-7 lead after a quarter of play. Emily Kiser broke into the scorebook in the second quarter with nine points, while Emily Schubert scored six points in the frame. The Lady Cyclones held a 52-15 advantage at the half.

Melenda Perry and Kiser hit early shots in the third quarter as Elizabethton continued to hold the momentum in the second half. The Lady Cyclones were able to set several younger players involved in the game as they continued to slowly add to their lead.

Marosites led EHS with 23 points, while Schubert added 15 points. Kiser and Perry had 12 and 11 points, respectively. Kelli Marosites finished with seven points.

In all, 11 Lady Cyclones reached the scorebook during the game.
