Boy’s Thursday Round-up: Hampton, Unaka take wins; EHS, CHS fall



Hampton 59, Sunbright 46 (boys)
The Bulldogs pulled away late in the first half and never look back in their first game of the Jim Cordell Christmas Classic at Harriman.

Hampton found themselves trailing three points at the end of the first quarter, but rallied to take a 30-22 lead into the locker room.

Matt Hughes scored 19 points to lead the Bulldogs, while Morgan Lyons scored nine points.

Unaka 58, Berean Christan 46 (boys)
The Rangers started quick and never looked back in their first game of the Berean Christmas Classic in Knoxville.

Unaka started the game on a 17-2 run and hit cruise control for the rest of the way.

Ryan Johnson had 16 points – including four 3-pointers – to pace the Rangers. John Ramsey scored 12 points, while Isaac Hill and Will Sexton had 11 points each.

Sunland (Bahamas) 44, Elizabethton 38 (boys)
The Cyclones came up short in a hard-fought battle in the opening round of the Daytona Beach Sunshine Classic on Thursday.

Elizabethton used a balanced attack to take a 10-9 advantage into the second quarter, and maintained a 19-16 lead at the break seven players scoring in the opening half.

The Stingers, however, took a lead in the third quarter and never looked back to take the win – securing the game from the free throw line in the fourth quarter.

Nico Ashley finished with 11 points, and Evan Perkins had 10 points.

West Greene 58, Cloudland 55 (boys)
The ‘Landers were unable to hold on in the opening round of the Kelly Services Christmas Tournament at Sullivan North High School.

Cloudland, who led by eight points, saw the Buffaloes rally to take the win. Robert Leeper led CHS with 14 points. Hunter Shell added 10 points, and Bentley Gilbert tossed in eight points.

Cherokee 68, Happy Valley 47 (boys)
The Warriors were unable to keep pace with the Chiefs on Thursday evening on the first day of the Kelly Services Christmas Tournament.

Happy Valley saw Cherokee jump out to a 13-2 lead in the opening minutes. The Warriors continued to battle, but were unable to cut into the Cherokee lead.

Bryce Carter had 12 points, while the trio of Dakota Cochran, Luke Roberts and Blake Young had eight points each.
