Hampton went on a business trip on Friday night. Unfortunately, the Bulldogs were unable to make it a successful one.

The Bulldogs erased an early deficit but were unable to answer a pair of second-half scores as Hampton fell 36-22 to Jellico on the road in Region 1-A action.

Jellico opened the scoring four minutes into the first quarter as Owen Morgan hit Clayton Hamblin for a 31-yard touchdown pass. After the Blue Devils recovered a Hampton fumble, Gavin Dabney caught an eight-yard pass from Morgan as Jellico took a 13-0 lead after a quarter of play.

Hampton answered early in the second quarter as Kaden Jones scored on a two-yard run. Jellico countered on the next drive as Hamblin and Morgan connected for a 15-yard touchdown pass as JHS took a 20-8 lead with 3:43 left in the first half.

Hampton went to work quickly and capped a quick drive as Ryland Jones scored on a 23-yard touchdown catch on a pass from Brycen Blevins.

The Bulldogs trailed 20-14 at the half.

In the third quarter, Blevins capped the opening drive with a short run as Hampton took a 22-20 lead. Jellico, however, countered once again as Hamblin and Morgan connected for a 33-yard touchdown.

The Bulldogs looked to answer but were stopped on fourth and 5 inside the Jellico 10 as the Blue Devils maintained a 28-22 lead after three complete quarters.

Hampton’s defense recorded a big stop on their own four-yard line early in the fourth, but the Bulldogs were unable to capitalize as Jellico recorded a pick-six to push the lead out.

In the closing minutes, Hampton was unable to get a rally going as Jellico secured the win.
