Cloudland Runs Past Hancock County

Cloudland jumped out early and never looked back.

The ‘Landers raced out to a quick lead and rolled to a 54-16 win over Hancock County on Friday night in Sneedville.

With the win, Cloudland improved to 2-1 on the year.

The ‘Landers set the tone on the opening drive as they marched down the field and scored when Bryce Birchfield found Walker Gouge for a 31-yard touchdown. Grayson Cole added the two-point conversion.

After the defense forced Hancock offense off the field, Cole scored his first touchdown of the night from two yards out. The Birchfield two-point conversion gave Cloudland a 16-0 advantage with just over six minutes to play in the first quarter.

The ‘Landers maintaned a 16-8 after a quarter of play.

In the opening minute of the second quarter, Kyle Birchfield found the endzone from a couple of yards out to extend the lead, and the B. Birchfield two-point conversion pushed the CHS lead to 24-8.

K. Birchfield got in the scoring act again on the next Cloudland drive with another short touchdown run, and the running back scored his third of the night with 3:31 remaining in the first half.

The two-point conversion pushed the CHS lead to 38-8 at the half.

The second half continued to be all Cloudland.

K. Birchfield found the endzone in the third quarter, while Kingston Cole scored on a 31-yard run early in the fourth quarter for the ‘Landers.

Hancock County accounted for the final score in the final minute of the game.

Cloudland is set to return to action with a trip to Mountain City to take on Johnson County in nonconference action on Friday, Sept. 8.
